Dragons of Arcadia v2: golden dawn
Application Hints for the Plucky Young Writer
Before you submit an app, make sure you've read all the theme info and thoroughly inspected our very long and hideously complex set of rules. Once you have meditated on these truths, grab an application template and go to town, but remember that spelling and grammar are your friends. Our story posts are written past-tense, third person, so we'd like some demonstration that you can compose a narrative sentence or two without having to ask for a story writing sample. Feel free to write in super-secret elements to your character that no other character in the game knows about, but you must reveal everything in the app, no springing surprises or leaving the door open for powergaming. Also, you really kind of need to be an established game member to apply for seconds and thirds, so please only send in one at a time. (Also: If you don't like the epithet we made up for a given dragon for which you are applying, feel free to change it, those are just suggestions on how to think of the dragon as his spheres of influence.)
Applicants are welcome to bring their own ideas for colors/metals/gems and elements for dragon characters, so long as they're clear on what spheres the character represents and it fits in with the rest of the game. ♥
Submit your finished app to the Arcadia forums' Application section, either as a link or a plain ol' copy and paste into the message field. This is a publically accessible forum and you will see your app feedback posted here as well.
Remember, the Arcadia forums are open 24 hours a day for your questions, comments, and requests for help.
Application Resources for the Tolkien-Impaired
- Behind the Name An excellent, searchable resource for finding names, including those exotic and rare enough to be dropped into a fantasy setting.
- Fantasy Name Generator Use the Tolkien filter at your own risk, but if you play with some of the other versions you'll find some nice names. Good for fantasy-ish surnames.
- The Sindarin Dictionary Project An online English/Sindarin dictionary, which can be used as a resource for the Arcadian elven language.
- Quenya Lapseparma What's your name in Quenya? This page gives elven language versions of modern day names. Might be hard to search for a specific meaning, but it has many many names already generated for your nefarious uses.
- Fellowship of the Word-smiths Lots of stuff to sift through if the rest of the links don't fix you up.
- Interactive Inupiat Dictionary Inupiat is a dialect of Inuit. Any language with this many Q's and X's deserves to be used as the basis for the dragon tongue. Feel free to bastardize it at will, the key here is too many consonants.
